Assisting Minister Instructions

Communion:

·        If Communion Service, after the Lord’s Prayer, assist Pastor with serving of communion.

·        Insert the middle railing piece in communion rail.

·        Pick up platter of wine cups.  Inner cups on the tray should have grape juice.

·        Follow Pastor, giving each congregation member a cup of wine.  Members who wish grape juice will indicate by raising an index finger.

·        While serving the wine (or grape juice), you will say “This is the blood of Christ shed for you.”

·        After Ushers have received communion, Pastor and Assisting minister will attend anyone in the pews who cannot come up to the altar to take communion.

·        After all members have been served, Pastor will give communion to the Assisting Minister.

·        Assisting minister will then serve communion to the Pastor.  Upon giving the bread, say “This is the body of Christ given for you.”  Upon giving the chalice of wine, say “This is the blood of Christ shed for you.”

·        As communion is finished, remove the railing piece from the communion rail.

·        Return to Lectern to continue the service.

·        Communion via Intinction:  Assisting Minister will hold the chalice of wine and stand with the Pastor at the front of the church aisle to serve communion.  Someone will be appointed to hold the chalice of grape juice.  (Name will be provided with Assisting Minister announcements.)  Pastor will stand next to the left side of pews (as you face the altar) and assistants at the other side.  After all the individuals on the left side have communed, Pastor will move to the right side of the pews and the Assistants will move to the left side.  The wine chalice should be offered next to the Pastor and then the grape chalice.

Note:  Acolyte instructions are also attached to assist with candle lighting when needed.
